Getting YOU to do what WE want

“Culture is the place and space where a society tells stories
about itself, where values are articulated and expressed,
where notions of good and evil, of morality and value, are
defined. Every society has a cultural field that talks about
these things. In our culture it is the stories of advertising
that dominate the cultural field. Advertising, in fact, is the
main storyteller of our society” –Sut Jhally

- Today’s advertising tells us that that everything is ok and that we need to buy products that we don’t really need. As well as that we don’t need a social life just as long as we have our material possessions advertising has drastically down graded our society and what our true values are.
- Advertising tells people that material objects can replace love, friendship and other social values if we don’t buy something that is new or high tech then we’re not socially accepted.
- Advertising tells us that we want pointless material objects that they can produce instead of the values we truly admire.
-They say that there products will make us happy, or drop dead sexy, as well as replace most of our social values.
My personal opinion on advertising and the words of Sut Jhally I think are all true advertising has done nothing but pressure people to spend there money and confuse them about there values. Advertising has taken a big toll on today’s society it’s pushed us away from everything that truly makes us happy.

You said "Advertising has drastically down graded our society and what our true values are." I think that about sums it up. You hit the nail on the head. Where is the line drawn between integrity vs. false advertising?

Very good title and picture; It really gets the actual message of advertising out.
